My nursing career started over 20 years ago caring for youth who were hospitalized with acute and chronic medical and mental health conditions. I worked for several years in high schools providing medical and mental health care for young people. I also provided trainings for educational staff about supporting youth with medical and mental health needs, including: managing medical emergencies, suicidal ideation, STDs and contraception. As a mental health nurse practitioner, I have provided mental health care for all stages of life, including young individuals.
I believe very strongly that all individuals deserve kind, compassionate and equitable care. I truly believe that as a medical professional that it is my responsibility, and honor, to advocate for individuals who may not be able to do so for themselves. Caring for youth has been one of the greatest pleasures in my work as a nurse and nurse practitioner. I love the energy and honesty that young people bring to a visit.
I really LOVE three things: being outside (mountains, city, beach- really depends on my mood), my three dogs, and dancing! Always thought I was a cat person and now I am a cat-dog person.
We know that people of all ages use substances. I believe that age shouldn't impede access to evidence-based medical care. Buprenorphine works really well for the treatment of opioid use disorder and we need to support all humans in their right to recovery.

As emergency medicine includes all patient from birth to old age I naturally wanted to join the adolescent care team with Boulder. Going the extra mile for my younger patients feels very important to me as I know navigating the world and the health care system as a teen or young adult can be really challenging.
