Senior Advisor for Research and Practice, Boulder Care

Dr. Stephen Martin is a Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health at the UMass Chan Medical School. Board certified in family medicine and addiction medicine, he is residency faculty and medical director for the Office-Based Addiction Treatment Program at the rural Barre Family Health Center. 

Dr. Martin also serves as a Senior Advisor for Research and Practice for Boulder Care, supporting our clinical workforce and informing our care model. 

Dr. Martin began his medical career as a National Health Service Scholar in a rural community health center and a Federal Prison Medical Center. He has served on the Quality Improvement Council for the American Society of Addiction Medicine and is an appointed member of the Massachusetts Primary Care Task Force.

Dr. Martin's clinical and research interests include primary care, oral health, complex care, addiction medicine, chronic pain, diagnostic error, and health disparities. He is the lead author of publications in the BMJ, JAMA, Lancet, Annals of Internal Medicine, and the American Journal of Public Health.
